ASA Annual meeting

Les Cèdres, Québec — The 33rd annual reunion of l’Association des Séguin d’Amerique was held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pavillon des Benevoles facility, 154 rue Valade in Les Cedres, Quebec. It was the first time that an in-person reunion could be held since 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented family members from gathering in 2020, 2021, and 2022. During those three years, virtual meetings were conducted instead via Zoom.

At this year’s reunion, there were 32 family members gathered in attendance along with five special guests – female re-enactors from the Filles du Roi group in Quebec City. The festivities began with one hour of socializing and renewing acquaintances as family members arrived and there was an opportunity to buy souvenir items. Board members Gilles Chartrand #915 and Marthe Séguin-Muntz #1186 were dressed in 17th century attire to represent our ancestors Francois Séguin and Jeanne Petit.

The business meeting then began with President Nicole Séguin #253 presiding, with a review of last year’s minutes, a financial report, and the election of board officers. While the majority of the meeting was conducted in the native French language for the Quebecois people, board members Luc Séguin #727, Claude Séguin #937, and Marthe Seguin-Muntz #1186 and were able to graciously provide English translation of pertinent discussion topics for Anglophone speakers.

After conclusion of the business meeting, a delicious lunch was served to guests. This was followed by a beautiful singing and story-telling hour by the Filles du Roi reenactors who also posed for photographs with attendees. Board member Ginette Quintal #937 then brought out a beautifully decorated white and blue frosting cake bearing the logo of l’Association des Seguin d’Amerique which was served as a sweet dessert while more socializing ensued.

President Nicole Séguin also recognized some of the newest members in attendance by distributing their membership cards. The six-hour celebration finally ended at 4:00 p.m. with many wonderful memories having been created for all who were able to be present.
