ASA Annual meeting

Held on June 8, 2019 at Zool Restaurant in Pointe-Fortune QC

It was with great pleasure that the Association des Séguin d’Amérique held its Annual General Meeting in Pointe-Fortune QC at the Zool restaurant owned by the Michel and Andrée Séguin family. The village of Pointe-Fortune sits on the shore of the Ottawa River and at the bottom of the Carillon dam. It is a lovely place. This gathering was planned as a simple event, knowing that the year 2020 will be the 30th anniversary of the Seguin Association. The Board of Directors wants to devote more time and energy to prepare this upcoming special event.

The Board Members greeted the members and their guests from 10h00; the business meeting started at 11h00.

• Our president, Nicole Séguin #253 welcomed the attendance of about thirty people. After reciting the Séguin prayer, a devotion composed by Marcel H. Séguin #513, Nicole invited us to observe a moment of silence in memory of members who passed on during the past year. Then Madam President reminded us that one of our great challenges was in getting articles for our journal La Séguinière. Another major challenge for the Association is to recruit members who are willing to be part of the Board of Directors. Currently there are three vacancies on the Board. How many more years can the Association survive with such a lack of involvement?

• Our treasurer, Ginette Quintal-Séguin #915, presented us with the 2018 financial results. For the first time in many years, your Association is enjoying a small surplus, 656$. This surplus has been achieved due to lower publishing costs for the journal La Séguinière. Yvon Sarrazin has been our auditor for many years. We thank him for doing a very good job.

• Gilles Chartrand #915 is in charge of promotional articles and he informed us that he would order new items to commemorate the 30th anniversary of our Association.

• The nominations committee received no names of proposed members to sit on the Board of Directors. Consequently, the sitting Board members were re-elected by acclamation.

• Madam President answered questions from the members and their guests before calling a motion of adjournment.

After the business meeting, the attendees were able to enjoy a tasty lunch prepared by the kitchen and the wood-fired oven of Michel and Andrée Séguin. After lunch, people were able to mingle and socialise with one another before finding their separate ways homeward.
