2015 Annual Meeting of the Séguin d’Amérique
10 rue St-Jean-Baptiste, Rigaud
The annual meeting of the Séguin d’Amérique is an ever popular event; it is the perfect opportunity to mingle between us members and our large family.
Many tables were set up to offer you a variety of items of interest: promotional items specific to the association, new publications, works by genealogists and historians concerning our family, the history of the Rigaud region and that of Ripon. There was something for all tastes and interests, an encouragement for participants who made good purchases. A special table was arranged to attract potential customers for a trip to France in the summer of 2016. It will take the participants to St-Aubin-en-Bray, village of origin of our ancestor François Séguin.
New this year was the cafe-chat area where people could meet informally and discuss one thing or another, what happened in the past year and propose ideas for the future of our association.
The Board of the Association proposed to the registered visitors an interesting tour of Ile Perrot, Vaudreuil-Dorion and St. Lazare, with a guided visit of the Sainte Jeanne-de-Chantal church. This visit was particularly interesting since our passionate guide, Lise Chartier, is the author of two volumes on the history of Île Perrot. We were late because we got lost in trying to find the church and unfortunately this forced us to cut short our visit. Nice coincidence however: the marriage of a member of the Séguin family had been scheduled following our visit.
The tour then stopped this time to discover the interesting house-studio of Bernard Séguin-Poirier. Many of our members bought some wonderful works of art. The time allotted to this visit was stretched but the participants greatly enjoyed it.
The visit of the dahlia garden in Saint-Lazare unfortunately had to be canceled because we were expected in Rigaud at the end of the afternoon. What a pity: tempus fugit.
During this beautiful tour on a comfortable bus, Lord Pierre Boucher de Boucherville accompanied us, personified by Jean-André Séguin # 027. Pierre Boucher had to replace our beloved ancestor François Séguin who was unable to attend, held up by his autumn chores on his land ...
To enhance our ride, a questionnaire with 25 questions was distributed to everyone to test each one’s knowledge of the history of our family association.
Sunday, to conclude this annual meeting, a country style mass was celebrated in Sainte-Madeleine-de-Rigaud church; an invitation to fraternize over a meal was made for those interested.
Very important reminder: we count on your presence at the mass rally of the Séguin in 2017 in Boucherville to celebrate the 345th anniversary of the marriage of François Séguin and Jeanne Petit, in conjunction with the 350th anniversary of the founding of the city of Boucherville. An event not to be missed!
