2001 Meeting of the Association des Séguin d’Amérique

August 18-19, 2001 in Rockland ON

For their eleventh annual rally, the Seguins of America were invited to Rockland, in Ontario, on August 18 and 19.

The open air day on Saturday allowed generations of Seguins to compete for the given ball at Parc Simon. In this edition, the results can be read.

Sunday, as our ancestors used to keep silent, it is on the forecourt of the Très-Sainte-Trinité church in Rockland that Séguin's first reunion takes place. As soon as they are inside, they are warmly welcomed by Pastor Gilles Mareil who does not fail to welcome everyone as well as his co-celebrant, Abbé Gérard-Georges Séguin # 390.

During the celebration, the gathering and presentation of the offerings are entrusted to the Séguins. Throughout the religious service, the choral animation is the work of Jean-François Seguin, musician, assisted by his daughters Joëlle, Julie and Catherine. When leaving the church, the “town crier of the Seguin” makes a good impression among the crowd of visitors.

Dozens of cars soon converge on the already "swarming" Outaouais Golf Club in Seguin.

The members of the reception and registration committee are at work and very busy. We are already stopping at the La Séguinière table and the archives while 'lu' André # 006, our genealogy expert, continues to accumulate data for his Séguins dictionary. The souvenir kiosk, always very popular, gives no respite to the three Séguin attendants.

It is almost time for the meal. Host Manon Seguin # 369 welcomes you and indicates the procedure for brunch. A meal much appreciated and masterfully led by a dynamic chef. Very true that his omelets ... are famous!

The floor is then given to vice-president Marcel-H, Seguin # 513 who brushes us, through a beautiful presentation text, the conditions to become eligible for the reception of a "FRANÇOIS". As chairman of the “FRANÇOIS” committee, second edition, Marcel confides to none other than “François Seguin, the ancestor” personified by André Séguin # 027, the task of reading the presentation files of each of the three recipients. The following are honored in turn: Messrs. Benoit Séguin # 584, Joseph-François Seguin # 913 and Jean-Roch Vachon # 128.

Patricia Seguin-Leduc # 004 then acts as everyone's interpreter to present Yolande Séguin-Pharand # 001 with the tributes of the Séguin d'Amérique for the ten years she devoted as President of the Association. Two magnificent watercolors by the painter Fernand Seguin (known as Ladéroute) # 383 were then presented to him: rune, the church of Saint-Aubin-en-Bray (birthplace of François Seguin) and the other, of the Alphonse Daudet mill , the father of the famous goat that adorns our Séguinière, Yolande was delighted and deeply moved.

The management hit the nail on the head for the choice of this gift for a lady keen on a work of art.

The annual meeting begins around 3:30 p.m. with a word from President Pierre-Paul Seguin, who outlines a range of upcoming activities and recalls the role that everyone can play within their association. Why not offer a membership fee as a gift to a son or daughter of Seguin. La Séguinière will then be the link that will create a feeling of belonging!

Agenda, minutes and financial statements are quickly accepted.

Mr. Richard-E. Seguin, C.A # 191, accepts the position of auditor again.

André Séguin # 006, genealogist, launches a last if not a final appeal to all: October 1, 2001, the deadline for the publication in 2002 of the Genealogical Dictionary of the Seguins. Will you be among the 16,000 or so descendants of François Séguin? Whether you are Seguin, Sigouin, Sayah, Sawer, Saillant or Ladéroute, a place is reserved for you in this 800-page book.

August 2002, the 17th and 18th at Les Cèdres, twelfth annual meeting of the Seguins of America and launch of the Séguin dictionary ... a date to remember.

Around 4 p.m., the assembly was adjourned. It's already a "goodbye".
