1994 Meeting of the Association des Séguin d’Amérique

August 20 and 21, 1994 in Coaticook QC

The fourth annual meeting was held on August 20 and 21, 1994 in Coaticook, an enchanting region of Estrie. A nearby campsite, La Séguinière, where several Séguins stayed, owned by Louis-Roch Séguin # 552, from Rigaud, first caught our attention.

Saturday is a day of discovering the region. The landscape was shaped by glaciers. First, rounded mountains worn by the passage of glaciers form very fertile valleys nourished by alluvium carried by these same glaciers. Then the melting of these glaciers, 14,000 years ago, formed an impressive gorge.

Many Séguin take advantage of their stay in Coaticook to visit this gorge. The river, over the millennia, has carved a bed 50 meters deep. A path goes around the gorge. You can cross this canyon on the world's longest suspended walkway. We have managed to conserve hemlocks and pines that are more than 200 years old.

After visiting the surrounding area, most of the activities will take place at Motel La Source located 4 kilometers from Coaticook.

We come from everywhere: from Quebec, Ontario, the United States, as far as Sudbury and Florida. How happy we are to meet and know more and more of Séguin! The family is constantly growing.

On Saturday evening, the Séguins have the taste of singing in chorus to the sound of the accordion. Thank you to those who embellished the evening with their singing tour or with their musical instrument. Everything takes place in joy and great simplicity.

On Sunday morning, the Séguins go to St-Luc de Barnston church to attend mass. We thank the pastor of the parish Mr. le Curé Domingue for his warm welcome as well as the president of the association, Yolande Séguin-Pharand, who always has the right word in his speeches. Oh! What a surprise on our return to the motel room to see, in flesh and blood, our friend to all, Richard Séguin. He was kind enough to devote a few minutes of his precious time to meet the Séguin family. Richard retires from time to time to a place in this region to listen to the Muses inspiring other songs that will continue to amaze us.

The general meeting is held in the afternoon. First Raymond Séguin presents the financial statements; the results are very positive thanks to the work and skill of our treasurer. Then we proceed to the elections. Five members of the committee who had previously accepted in writing the office for the next three years are re-elected.

The Séguins end the reunion happily with the desire to meet next year in Hawkesbury (Ontario).
