1993 Meeting of the Association des Séguin of America
August 8, 1993 in Masson-Angers QC
In preparation since February, the fourth annual meeting of the Association des Séguin d'Amérique was held in Masson-Angers on August 8, 1993.
Why in Masson-Angers? The members of the association's board of directors wanted to go to the Outaouais, a region where there are many Séguin families.
The response was not the most encouraging; it is up to us, members of the association who are in the Outaouais, to make our association known and to encourage other Séguin in the region to join it.
The day was nevertheless very successful because nearly four hundred Séguin showed up at the Masson-Angers arena.
From nine o'clock, the first Séguins were at registration and were getting ready to visit the many kiosks set up within the arena.
At ten o'clock, the annual meeting took place, after a word of welcome from the deputy mayor of the city, Mr Maurice Bourbonnais, whose mother is a Séguin.
A word from the President, financial statements, election of new members, so the annual meeting proceeded.
At eleven fifteen, meet at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges church for the celebration of the mass officiated by Father Gérard Georges Séguin, assisted by Father Edouard Séguin c.s.v. The parish choir under the skilful direction of Monique David performed the songs for the occasion.
After dinner, the cousins ??were able to visit, in addition to the usual kiosks of La Séguinière, selling souvenirs, genealogy, a survey on a future trip to the United States, a kiosk of the Cie Maclaren, industry local newspaper where small trees and notepads were distributed, a clothing-making craft kiosk by Céline Brazeau-Séguin, a very fun antiques kiosk and a slide show on the towns, villages and flowery countryside competition, competition won regionally by the city of Masson-Angers in 1991-1992.
Starting at 1:30 p.m., in the arena's volunteer room, there was a rendezvous with history. Here is the program:
1:30 p.m. - The participants of the trip to France discussed their itinerary. 2:30 p.m. - History of Masson and the region with Pierre-Louis Lapointe, famous historian.
3.20 p.m.- History of the Séguins with Jacques Séguin. 16 hours. - Information on our ancestors in addition to a discussion on a Séguin dictionary project with André Séguin.
A bottle of Séguin brandy as well as numerous door prizes were drawn.
In short, it was a busy day where distant cousins ??make and renew friendships. Thank you to my brother Réjean, my sister Réjeanne and their children, as well as André from Gatineau, Pierre Séguin from Hull and Patricia Séguin-Leduc for their precious help in organizing this day.
In closing, I would like to thank dentist Robert Séguin from Buckingham, for the donation of $ 200 made to the organizing committee as well as to the city of Masson-Angers and the Corporation des loisirs de Masson-Angers for their collaboration during the day.
