Séguin form an Association

After nurnerous suggestions to forn an Association, a reunion was held in Boucherville, between Yolande Séguin-Pharand, André Séguin from Gatineau and Oscar Lemieux from Ottawa, that the association was formed.

The Association was 1st represented at the Fédération des Familles Souches in April and during that sarne weekend, the "Société historique de Rigaud" invited André Séguin as a guest speaker and at the same he launched his book on the Séguin. A provisional committee is formed and holds its first rneeting on May 27 and the second one on July 27.

A "picnic" is being organised for August 26 in Rigaud, and it will also be the first annual meeting. An application for the Charter was made and accepted on June 13, 1990. The committee formed of nine persons requested the Charter.

All the activities of the Association will be in conjunction with the festivities of Boucherville in 1992.

If you would like to make a donation to your Associaton, of money, photos, articles or others, it will be greatly appreciated.

Membership

The membership has been set for a 12 month period at $20.00 per person including the spouse, unless you prefer a life membership at $250.00

Souvenirs

In the next few months we will have Séguin souvenirs, such as lapel pins, sweaters, crests etc. You will be advised through your journal of its availability and price.

Boucherville 92

Preparations have already started to organize parties for the Séguins. These celebrations will take place in Boucherville the weekend of October 31, 1992. You can therefore mark this date in your calendar.

Séguin newsletter

A journal will be published 2-3 times a year depending on the material received from you, members. Newspaper articles, family history, announcements of deaths, marriages, births. Photographs etc. are also welcome.

Ancestor François Séguin-dit-ladéroute

François Séguin was originally from Picardie, France. He was bom in Saint-Aubin-en-Bray near Beauvais, the 4th of July 1644 from the marriage of Laurent Séguin and Marie Massieu.

Francois Séguin enrols in monsieur de Saint-Ours company from the famous regiment of Carignan.

He embarks on the Saint-Sébastien and arrives in Québec on the 12th of September 1665.

Francois Séguin was married in Boucherville on the 31st of October 1672 to Jeanne Petit, daughter of Jean and Jeanne Godreau of La Rochelle, she was a "Fille du roi".

The Séguin family is numerous; from the marriage of Francois Séguin and Jeanne Petit were bom 11 children, six sons and five daughters.

Today we can trace Séguin everywhere in Arnerica.

Did you know that ...

Ladéroute is a soldier's nickname that François received from his time in the Carignan regiment.

Séguin is a name for a warlord of Saxon origin, consisting of two words;

SIG ... war, and WIN ... victory.

Robert-Lionel Séguin (1920-1983)

Robert-Lionel Séguin has earned an international reputation for his ethnology-historical works.

Author, among others, of "The traditional civilization of the inhabitants in the 17th and 18th centuries and of agricultural and horticultural equipment in New France".

Born Rigaud on March 7, 1920, son of Omer Séguin and Marie-Jeanne Séguin, he married, in the same place, on October 26, 1957, Huguette Servant, daughter of Emile Servant and Corinne Robert-Lionel Séguin published in the Mémoires de the Montreal Genealogy Society his research on the ancestor François Séguin and his descendants.
